How many hours
will I paddle in an average day?
We try to average 4-5 hours of paddling a
day. We know that this is a vacation and not military training; therefore
you will not be woken up at 5 am, unless this is the best time to watch
game in Africa. We usually wake up around 7-8 am, and after a big
breakfast and some stretching and yoga sessions, head down river. We stop
along the way for lunch, some rafting games, and of course for taking
pictures. We try to reach camp usually by 4-5 pm, so there is still plenty
of light for a game of volleyball, or to enjoy reading on the bank before
dinner.

How fit do I need to be for an
Adventure Expedition?
The level of difficulty of each trip is
explained in the trip itinerary on the web site. On an average adventure
expedition, you do not need to be Schwarzenegger in order to participate.
The only thing you need, is good spirit, love for nature and adventure and
leave the rest to us.

What if I get hurt?
We travel to remote parts of the world
because we believe that therein lies the true adventure, but we do keep
possible injury in mind. Each expedition is backed up by full
comprehensive 1st aid kits, built especially for us by a doctor. All our
guides have
wilderness 1st aid certifications. We carry satellite phones, and laptop
computers in case of emergency, and are in contact with the local medical
rescue organizations and authorities, in case an evacuation is needed.

Is it dangerous?
When one considers participating in an adventure
expedition, one should bare in mind that adventurous sport involves risk.
We raft and trek the best rivers and places in the world, and therefore
use the most experienced guides in the field, to guide you safely
throughout the trip. On rivers we always stop and scout big rapids before
running them. Our rafting expeditions are accompanied by safety kayakers
who always run the rapids first, and point out the best lines. Wherever
possible, we use a safety cataraft as well. All our river guides are
certified Swift Water Rescue Technicians, and 1st aid. You will always
have the chance of walking away from any rapid you don’t feel comfortable
with running, and in our land supported adventures you will be able to
join the supporting vehicle for a rest day.

Am I expected to participate in
camp chores?
A rafting expedition, involves building up
camps, setting a camp fire, toilets, showers, and of course cooking meals.
Do not worry, our staff, besides being expert on the river, are
experienced outdoor men and women, and therefore take care of all your
needs in the camp. If you do wish to help with the camp chores, we are
sure the guides will appreciate it.

How many people participate in a
trip?
We limit the number of participants to a
minimum of 6 and maximum 18. We like to keep the trip small and intimate.
Back to
Top
What is the age range in an
expedition?
In order to participate in one of our
expeditions, a member should be at least 16 years old. We have no maximum
age limit. We had people of 70 years and older participate in our
expeditions. The average age range is usually between 25-45 years old.

What should I bring?
Each trip is different and therefore has special requirements. We have a
link on our web site that will guide you through all the gear you need to
bring and specifications for each trip. You can also find a list of
outdoor equipment retailers we work with and recommend their equipment.

Accommodation options if
traveling alone
Accommodations (in hotels, tents, and
cruise cabins) are based on double occupancy. If you prefer single
accommodations, you are requested to pay the Single Supplement Fee listed
in the cost for each Trip Itinerary. If you are traveling alone and wish
to share accommodations, we will assign you a roommate of the same gender.
If there is no one with whom you can share, you are required to pay a
"forced" single supplement fee, which is usually half of the regular
single supplement. On some trips, shared accommodations are guaranteed,
while on a few others, single accommodations are not available.
