Peru is South America third largest country, and can be divided into three distinct geographic regions. The centeral high sierras of the Andes, with its massive peaks, steep canyons, roaming rivers and fascinating Pre-Colombian Archaelogical sites. The Andes are on of the world's most unstable mountain ranges, with frequent landslides, earthquakes and flushfoods. The Andes are also home to some of South America's most fascinating Pre-Colombian cultures like the Ancient Inca, and their famous "lost city" of Machu Picchu.
Cusco
This beautiful, colorful town was once the center of the Inca Empier, and now it's Peru's and possibly South America's most visited place. The Inca city is still in evidence. Walls, doorways, arches and foundations can be fount throughout the city. Cusco contain some more extensive Inca ruins, including the temples of the Sun and Moon, and the famous Saqsaywaman ruins. We will have plenty of time to explore this magnificent city, its markets, ruins and very lively night life. Cosco will also be our city of departure for both our Apurimac-Salcntay and Apurimac Inca Trail river trips and the two different treks to Machu Picchu.
