Uganda is located in East-Central Africa, situated north and northwest of Lake Victoria . It is a landlocked country bordered by Sudan on the North, Kenya on the east, Tanzania on the South, Rwanda on the southwest and Zaire on the northwest. The greater part of Uganda consists of a plateau about 4,000 ft in height. Along the western border of the Ruwenzori Mountains reaching heights of over 16,000 ft , while on the eastern frontier Mount Elgon rises to 14,178 ft . By contrast, the Western Rift Valley, which runs from north to south through the western half of the country, is as low as 3,000 ft on the floor of Lake Edward and Lake George and 2,000 ft on the flow of Lake Albert . The White Nile River has its source in Lake Victoria . Uganda , a place which is fascinating and colorful, emphasizes the true Africa .
Africa of dense rain forests, wide plain savannas, rich wildlife, active volcanoes and one of the best rivers for rafting anywhere in the world- The White Nile. In the recent years after a long chaotic period, world conservation organizations, joined hands and encouraged the officials to declare chosen parts of the country as National Parks. Hunting is forbidden, and some species that were in danger of extinction, are now flourishing again. Today some of the most beautiful and rich parks can be found in the country. You can observe from a distance of few yards, the huge Nile Crocodiles cruising around the base of the magnificent Murchison Falls, pound along the dirt roads of the Ugandan great savannas and enjoy great wild herds, hike up to breathtaking lakes, wander around the rain forest, and of course raft down the Mighty White Nile. The White Nile is one of the two tributaries of the Great Nile. Its source is in Lake Victoria, located in the southern part of Uganda . The length of the Nile is over 3,730 mi and is considered the longest river in the world. Throughout history, there was no other river that played such an important role and almost hadn't been explored. Through its course, the Nile crosses borders, countries, wild landscapes, and colorful civilizations. Till recently there were few to brave the whitewaters of the White Nile , but now, with the proper equipment and knowledge, it's considered one of the wildest though safest rafting runs anywhere in the world. Our journey down the White Nile begins nearby the town of jinja, which lies at the source of the White Nile- Lake Victoria, the biggest lake in Africa . In the next two days we will run some of the most powerful rapids in the world. You will have the chance of trying a few river toys, like- river boarding, tandem kayaking, and body rafting. The Nile is warm and friendly, and probably one of the safest rivers in the world to flip rafts on. At the end of the wet adventure, we will board our safari truck and drive through the African savannas to our next destination- Murchison Falls Game Reserve. We will start our boat cruise upriver towards the base of the falls. On the banks we will observe hundreds of hippos, crocodiles, monkeys, antelopes and herds of elephants, not to mention the hundreds of bird species, flying around us. Locals cruising on dugout canoes will cross us, wandering what are we doing and where did we come from. We will finish the cruise at the port of a small fishing village called Vansiko on the delta that the Nile forms when it enters Lake Albert . We will visit the Budongo forest reserve, home of over 900 Chimpanzees living in the wild, and return to Kampala via the Ugandan bush, to our last night of celebrations.
